EL MAR ( The Sea )

Two boys (Ramallo and Manuel) and a girl in the Spanish Civil War are involved in the death of other two boys, one killed, the other suicided. This terrible secret will be with them for all their lives. Years pass and they meet in a hospital for tuberculosis treatment. She is now a nun, Ramallo is a thief and Manuel is obsessed by religion. Reality is too hard to feel, only the sea should be the best place, where all is quiet... This is a video I made for the Spanish film, El Mar (meaning The Sea). The song is Dumb I Sound by Sufjan Stevens. It's a very graphic film and is widely unknown outside of Spain so I thought that I HAD to make a video for it. The film follows three friends who witnessed horrible acts of violence in their childhood during the Spanish Civil War and meet again as young adults in a tuberculosis sanatorium. Francisca is a nun in the clinic; Manuel is a patient who turns to religion to save him from sinful desires; and Ramallo is a violent and terrorizing young man who just wants to be his own person.
